CAT NO: DIDACTICNLE-Export-210067
Reverse Osmosis- Engineering Lab Training Systems.
Technical Description
This experimental unit has been developed in conjunction with
the Institute for Thermal Process Engineering at the TU Hamburg-Harburg.
A Sodium chloride (NaCl) solution is delivered from a tank to the
membrane module using a pump. The pump generates the necessary osmotic
pressure for separation. The semi-permeable membrane is permeable for
water but not for the dissolved NaCl. This causes the solution to
separate out into retentate (concentrated solution) and permeate
(water). The retentate and permeate are fed back to the solution tank
but can also be collected separately. In order to check the success of
the separation, salt concentrations in the feed, retentate and permeate
are recorded by measuring the respective conductivity values. A further
tank containing distilled water is available for flushing the system at
low pressures and high flow rates. To prevent the pump from running dry,
both tanks are fitted with low water protection.
