North Dakota Cone 2720 (Part Xxxii)- Engineering Lab Training Systems.
Developed by the North Dakotra Highway Department for use with a
pavement design method similar to that associated with the California
Bearing Ratio Test. This test is simple and more rapid than the latter
and can be easily applied in site field test. The instrument consists a
rod carrying a loading platform at the top and a hardened. steel cone at
the bottom. The rod is mounted vertically and slides freely up and down
in the collars of the frame and can be locked In any position as
required. The conical tip penetries the soil through an aperture in the
cast iron base. The loading platform carries a graduated plunger which
enters one of the slide supports and permits the reading of the
penetration correct to 1 mm (without weight). Set of 7 weights 5 kg.
