The
ability of sole of any footwear to provide adequate thermal insulation
is determined by placing the footwear under test in a sand bath
maintained at a temperature of 150°C with the sand coming up to the top
edge of its outsole and measuring the temperature on top of its insole
after a period of thirty minutes.
