Cord Guard Flexing Tester For Electrical Lab Training.
Cord Guard Flexing Tester - For Electrical Lab Training
The cord coming out of an electric iron is subjected to a large
number of flexing cycles about its junction with the iron when it is
moved to-and-fro while being used. Because of this movement the
conductors and the insulation over them are subjected to repeated
pulling and release or to flexing which cause them to fail. The
intensity of these actions on the cord can be reduced by providing a
cord guard at the point where the cord comes out of the iron.
Suitability of such cord guards in increasing the operational life of
the cord is determined by means of a cord guard flexing test.
In
this test the iron is held in a vertical plane with the cord coming out
along a vertical axis. A dead weight is suspended from the cord and the
iron is oscillated through an angle of 45° on either side about an axis
tangential to the outer surface of the part in which cord guard is
secured. This operation is performed ten thousand times, after which the
iron is shifted so that the flexing takes place along a plane at right
angle to the one in which flexing took place earlier. After flexing for
another ten thousand cycles, the iron is checked for damages to the cord
guard and its flexible cable or cord.
